Know more about USA rails

Trains, routes, and cabins.

Traintripdesk helps you compare and explore routes and prices on trains across the United States. The names below are trains travelers often ask about. Traintripdesk does not operate them, and Traintripdesk is not affiliated with any train company.

Shorter trips, especially in the Northeast and on the California coast, are usually daytime rides. Longer city pairs can take a night or two, and that is where a private room matters. Schedules, prices, and what is on board change by train. Traintripdesk checks the current choice with you.

Cabin information

These are the seat and room types people compare. A cabin on one train is not always the same on the next. Traintripdesk confirms what that departure includes.

  • 01

    Coach

A reserved reclining seat. This is the usual choice for daytime trips and for travelers who want the lowest price on a longer ride.

  • 02

    Business class

A roomier seat than coach on many shorter routes, often with a quieter car. Offered on selected trains, not on every route.

  • 03

    First class

The top seat on the fastest Northeast trains. Many of these trips include a meal and more space than business class.

  • 04

    Roomette

A small private room for one or two on overnight trains. Seats convert into beds. The bathroom is often outside the room.

  • 05

    Bedroom

A larger private room, usually for two. On many long-distance trains it includes a private toilet and shower.

  • 06

    Family bedroom

A private room sized for a small family, offered on some long-distance trains. Space and beds depend on that train.
